Verma-McDowell Mary Elizabeth McDowell and Rajit Verma were united in marriage on November 11, 2017 at six o'clock in the evening at Belk Chapel in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Reverend Jim Lytle officiated the ceremony. A reception, hosted by parents of the bride, followed at Quail Hollow Club. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Whitfield McDowell of Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. John Robert McMorris and the late Mr. John Robert McMorris of Kiawah Island, South Carolina and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Robert Adams McDowell and the late Mr. Robert Adams McDowell of Charlotte and Plandome, New York. Mary Elizabeth is a graduate of the University of Alabama where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Apparel and Textile Design. She also earned her Graduate Gemologist and Jewelry Design and Technology degrees from the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California. Mary Elizabeth is owner of her jewelry design business, Mary Liz Designs, LLC. The groom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rajiv Verma of New Delhi, India. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Goverdhan Lal Verma of New Delhi, India and the late Mr. and Mrs. Sardari Lal Oberai of Dehradun, India. Rajit is a graduate of the Doon School, Dehradun, India and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communications and Design at PAF in New Delhi, India. He also earned his Graduate Gemologist and Jewelry Design and Technology degrees from the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California. Rajit is a partner in Punjab Jewellers Rajiv Verma in New Delhi, India. The matron of honor was Rebecca Jane Reigel Ponton, a childhood friend of the bride, of Charlotte. The maid of honor was Heather Frances McDowell, cousin of the bride, of San Diego, California. Also attending were bridesmaids Lauren Alisa Wood, Ashley Ellinor Solomon, Catherine Hale Orr of Atlanta, Georgia; McKenna Lynch Clements and Rachel Reade Kornegay of Charlotte; Kimberly Lauren Stallworth of Dallas, Texas; Samantha Parker Patterson of Memphis, Tennessee; Lacy Nolan Surber of Winchester, Virginia; Jean Everette Latham and Mary Katherine Pynes of New York, New York; Monica Ashley Bern of Scottsdale, Arizona and Patricia Carroll Van Pelt of Birmingham, Alabama. The best men of the groom were Amit Verma and Pranit Verma of New Delhi, India, brothers of the groom. A rehearsal dinner on Friday night was held at the Duke Mansion. Mr. and Mrs. Rajit Verma will reside in New Delhi, India.
